Chatfuel's Business plan is $69 a month plus AI top-ups. We scored 7 Chatfuel alternatives on eight criteria. My AskAI is $199 a month for 1,000 tickets.
Mike is an experienced Product Manager who focuses on all the “non-development” areas of My AskAI, from finance and customer success to product design, copywriting, testing and more.
Of seven Chatfuel alternatives scored on eight criteria, My AskAI leads at 63/80 for AI inside your helpdesk. Chatbase follows at 62/80, ahead of us on channels and cost, and ManyChat costs least, at $64 a month for three people answering 1,000 contacts.
Your customers message you on WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger, and you answer them with Chatfuel. Before you switch, check how well each alternative's AI answers those messages, how your team takes over when the AI can't, and what it costs at your volume. If your team already works in a helpdesk, also check whether the AI can answer inside it.
The scores below come from each vendor's pricing, security and help-center pages, and every tool is priced at the same monthly volume. Chatfuel appears as a reference row in the cost table, with its plans and features in our complete guide to Chatfuel.
⚡
My AskAI comes first, at $199 a month on its Pro plan for 1,000 conversations.
My AskAI (best for AI replies inside your current helpdesk) - Works inside Gorgias, HubSpot, Zendesk, Intercom, Freshdesk and Freshchat, learns from your past tickets and bills per ticket. WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger reach it through your helpdesk.
Chatbase (best no-code agent built from your content) - Up and running in minutes on your website and the three Meta channels, with a helpdesk built in. Answers stop at zero credits unless auto-recharge is on.
Tidio (best all-in-one inbox and AI for small teams) - Website chat, email and the three Meta channels share one inbox, with Lyro replying first. It's the priciest option here at this volume.
Crisp (best for the widest inbox on a budget) - Telegram, LINE and SMS share one inbox with the Meta channels, for about $126 a month including Hugo's AI replies. Crisp's help center says it hasn't had a SOC 2 audit.
ManyChat (best direct swap for Instagram DMs) - The cheapest bill in this list, backed by ISO and SOC 2 certificates. AI Replies, the feature that answers questions, is in beta and works on Instagram alone.
Botpress (best for many channels with developer help) - More channels than most here, including Telegram, LINE and Slack, plus a built-in helpdesk for handovers. Building and editing the agent is developer work.
Wati (best for a WhatsApp-first team inbox) - A shared inbox built around WhatsApp, with an AI agent sold as a second product on its own bill.
Are there good alternatives to Chatfuel?
⚡
TL;DR: Yes. They fall into four kinds: other DM automation tools, AI agent builders you train on your own content, shared inboxes with an AI agent built in, and an AI agent that answers inside the helpdesk you already run. Which fits depends on where your customers write in and where your team replies.
Chatfuel is a no-code platform for AI conversations on WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, TikTok and a website chat widget. Its AI agent, Fuely AI, answers questions, qualifies leads, books appointments and hands chats to a person. It is also a WhatsApp Business Solution Provider, so it connects your number to Meta itself, and it has pages for WhatsApp and Instagram automation.
It's built around lead capture and sales. The Business plan on its pricing page is pitched at "teams ready to sell and support with AI", and its listed features include lead scoring and selling in the chat. Your team answers in Chatfuel's live chat inbox, every chat becomes a card on a Leads board, and email isn't among the channels its docs and pricing page list.
One Chatfuel user described what that means for a team that also answers inside Meta's tools:
"We use chatfuel at our workplace and I had the same issue with Messenger, where chatbot didn't know when human intervened. Their reply was that we would need to manage conversations from within chatfuel platform and not from Meta (FB) directly." - source
I group the tools people weigh against it into four kinds:
Other DM automation tools - ManyChat and Wati automate WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger conversations the way Chatfuel does.
AI agent builders you train on your own content - Chatbase and Botpress build an agent from your website and files, then publish it to web chat and the Meta channels.
Shared inboxes with an AI agent built in - Crisp and Tidio give a small team one inbox for chat, email and social messages, with the AI answering first.
An AI agent inside the helpdesk you already run - My AskAI installs as an approved app in Zendesk, Intercom, Freshdesk, Freshchat, Gorgias or HubSpot, and has a website widget too.

We lead on training sources and improving over time, because the AI learns from your historic tickets and drafts new knowledge from your agents' replies. Chatbase does better on channels and cost: it connects to Meta itself and costs $150 at this volume, while our Meta channels come in through your helpdesk and Pro is $199. The two tie on setup, features, security and maturity.
Of the rest, Tidio has served 300,000+ businesses over more than a decade, Crisp and Botpress connect Telegram and LINE next to the Meta channels, and ManyChat is the cheapest and lists SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001 and ISO 42001. Wati's AI agent is a second product that needs a Wati Pro or Business plan before it answers on WhatsApp.

How did I select these Chatfuel alternatives?
⚡
TL;DR: I kept tools a support team can run itself that answer customers on WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger or website chat with AI, and that publish enough about pricing and security to score. White-label builders sold to agencies, Shopify-only tools and full helpdesk switches are out.
Chatfuel's plans are built for small businesses that answer in DMs, so I looked for Chatfuel competitors the same team could pick up without a project. Every tool here except Botpress passes all four of these tests:
Runs without a developer - a support lead can set it up and change the answers without engineering help (Botpress is the one exception, because its builder tools suit a developer).
Answers customers with AI - the AI replies to customers itself on at least one of WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger or website chat.
Publishes its pricing and security - enough on its own pages to price it at the same volume and score its certificates.
Has a self-serve plan - a small team can sign up and pay monthly without a sales call.
That rules out three groups:
White-label bot builders for agencies - they're sold to agencies that resell bots, and for a support team ManyChat already covers the same needs.
Shopify-only tools - they only work for teams that sell on Shopify.
Full helpdesk switches - moving helpdesk is a bigger decision than replacing a DM tool.
How did I compare them?
⚡
TL;DR: Eight criteria, each scored out of 10 for a total out of 80, chosen for what changes a support team's day or its monthly bill.
I co-founded My AskAI, so I'm not a neutral party here: we're one of the seven, and we help 200+ ecommerce and SaaS businesses run AI support inside the helpdesk they already use. Our scores come from the same kinds of pages as everyone else's.
Channels covered
Can the AI reply where your customers already message you: WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, website chat and email? I also score what you need in place first, such as a helpdesk already connected to a channel or Meta's business verification before WhatsApp goes live. TikTok, Telegram and LINE count as extras.
Ease of setup
How long until the AI answers a real customer, and can a support lead get it there alone? I've assumed you use AI to draft instructions and tidy your help articles, which cuts most setup work to an hour or two.
Training sources
What the AI can learn from: help centers, websites, files, cloud drives and your past support conversations. The more of your team's real answers it can read, the less you have to write from scratch.
Features
Beyond answering questions, what else can the tool do? That includes taking actions such as refunds and order changes, answering in other languages, and where a person takes over. A handover that arrives in the inbox your team already watches scores higher than one that sends them to a second tool.
What is AI-to-human handoff? The bit everyone gets wrong
Answer quality
Every vendor measures results differently, so I don't score this in the table. Across 195 rated deployments in our benchmark study, the median AI resolution rate is about 70%, which gives you a rough bar for the customer results quoted in each review.
Improving over time
How the agent gets better after launch. The strongest tools learn from your team's replies, point out questions the AI couldn't answer, and let you check a change before customers see it.
Security
The certificates each vendor states on its own trust or security page, such as SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, GDPR and HIPAA. I give less weight to a certificate that only comes with a higher plan or that belongs to the vendor's cloud provider.
Maturity
How long the product has been around, how many businesses use it and how much named customer proof the vendor publishes.
Cost
What each tool costs at 1,000 conversations a month for a team of three, on monthly billing. For tools priced by reply or credit, I assume two AI replies per conversation. For tools priced by contact, I assume one contact per conversation.
Every tool is on its cheapest plan that covers that volume, the three teammates and whatever else it's scored for. Meta's WhatsApp message fees are left out of every row.
Is My AskAI a good Chatfuel alternative?
⚡
TL;DR: Yes, for a team that already answers in Zendesk, Intercom, Freshdesk, Freshchat, Gorgias or HubSpot, because My AskAI answers inside that helpdesk, including the WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger chats that come into it. It trains on your historic tickets, keeps learning from your team's replies and costs $199 a month on Pro for 1,000 conversations.
We built My AskAI for teams whose customers already reach them through a helpdesk. It installs from the helpdesk's own marketplace and answers in the inbox your agents already use, so a handover is a note on the same ticket.
The My AskAI homepage, presenting an AI customer service agent that works inside your helpdesk.
The AI starts from your team's past answers and keeps learning from the new ones they write.
G2: My AskAI scores 4.5/5 from 23 reviews on G2. "The AI Agent consistently answered 70% of our support requests with no tweaking after the first knowledge base sync... quickly got us up to 80% deflection." Alan P., Head of Customer Success, via G2.
Which channels does My AskAI cover?
We answer on your website through our chat widget, and on email through your helpdesk's email channel. WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger come in through your connected helpdesk, and the AI answers them there. Your team replies to those chats from the same helpdesk inbox, with the same routing rules.
For WhatsApp, that means using the WhatsApp Business connection your helpdesk already has. If those channels already come into your helpdesk, there's nothing more to set up.
How easy is it to set up My AskAI?
Most teams install the app and connect a help center in 10 to 15 minutes, with no developer involved. From there the AI drafts every reply as an internal note, so you can read its answers on live tickets before any customer sees one.
What knowledge sources can I train My AskAI on?
We read help centers in Zendesk, Intercom and Freshdesk (including articles behind a login), websites, PDF and Word files, Google Drive, Notion, Confluence, SharePoint, OneDrive, Dropbox, Salesforce knowledge pages and Shopify. Custom answers let you fix the exact wording for a policy question.
We also train on your historic tickets, and by default we draft knowledge articles from your last 5,000 for you to review. For a team with a thin help center, the best answers are often in those tickets. It's the widest source list in this set.
What features does My AskAI have?
When the customer asks for a person, or the AI decides to hand over, it passes the conversation to your team inside the same helpdesk with a summary attached. It then stays quiet until an agent hands the ticket back. Guidance sets the tone and the handover rules in plain language.
A few more features support leads use most:
Tasks and Tools - refunds, cancellations and order changes, written in plain language. Each action can run on its own or wait for an agent to approve it, and they bill per use on top of the plan.
95 languages - detected per message, so the AI replies in the customer's language.
Image reading - the AI reads a screenshot or a photo the customer sends.
User Data API - connects your order system, billing system or CRM, so the AI can answer "where is my order?" or "what plan am I on?" with that customer's live details.
AI Tagging - sorts every ticket into your existing tags in Zendesk, Intercom, Freshdesk, Freshchat and Gorgias, billed per tag.
AI Copilot Chrome Extension - drafts replies for your agents inside our integrated helpdesks, with no seat charge.
How does My AskAI improve over time?
When an agent answers a ticket the AI handed over, Self-Learning drafts new knowledge from that human reply. You approve it, and the next customer with the same question gets the better answer.
Echo, the assistant inside our dashboard, tells your team why the agent gave any answer and which source it used, and it can change guidance when you ask. Insights groups every conversation into topics and scores each one for customer satisfaction, so you can see which questions are growing.
How secure is My AskAI?
We hold SOC 2 Type II and are GDPR compliant, with AES-256 encryption at rest and TLS in transit. Customer data is never used to train models. Our trust center has the details a security reviewer will ask for.
How mature is My AskAI?
Alex Rainey and I founded My AskAI, and we still run sales, onboarding and support calls ourselves. More than 200 ecommerce and SaaS businesses use it, and our agents have resolved over 1,000,000 tickets.
How much does My AskAI cost?
Pro is $199 a month with 1,000 tickets included, then about $0.12 per extra ticket, and it has five team seats. At 1,000 conversations a month that's $199 + $0 = $199, with no overage.
We charge per ticket, resolved or not, so the bill doesn't climb as the AI gets better. Add-ons such as AI Tagging and Tasks bill on top when you use them.
We give you 30 days free to test all of it, with every feature unlocked, unlimited tickets and no card.
Who is using My AskAI?
TravelJoy runs support in Zendesk, across tickets and messaging, and it hit 80% AI resolution while saving 193 hours a month. Its Head of Customer Service, Alan Pugh, summed it up:
"Our experience with My AskAI has been nothing short of transformative." - Alan Pugh, TravelJoy
YouGarden, a UK online garden center, runs My AskAI in Freshdesk on about 12,000 tickets a month and resolves 66% with AI. A DTC baby-textiles brand on Gorgias handles about 1,000 tickets a month across chat and email, the same volume as our cost table, and resolves 72% with AI.
Where My AskAI loses to the other Chatfuel alternatives
Four places where another tool here is the better choice:
ManyChat answers Meta DMs with no helpdesk in place - it connects to Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp directly and lists ISO 27001 and ISO 42001 alongside SOC 2 Type II. At 1,000 conversations with three people answering, it costs $64 a month against our $199.
Botpress connects more channels on its own - Telegram, LINE, Slack and Teams are there next to the Meta channels, and its trust center lists HIPAA.
Crisp and Tidio put the inbox and the AI in one product - a small team with no helpdesk yet gets both for one bill.
Tidio, ManyChat and Crisp have a longer track record - each has been running for about a decade or more and serves at least 10,000 businesses.
✅
Choose My AskAI if:
Your team answers in Zendesk, Intercom, Freshdesk, Freshchat, Gorgias or HubSpot, and you want the AI in that same inbox.
WhatsApp, Instagram or Messenger already come into your helpdesk, and you want one AI answering all of them.
You have years of tickets but a thin help center, and want the AI to start from your team's past answers.
You want a bill that stays the same per ticket as the AI resolves more.
❌
Don't choose My AskAI if:
You have no helpdesk and want the inbox and the AI from one vendor; Crisp or Tidio fit better.
You mainly want Instagram and WhatsApp marketing automation, such as comment-to-DM flows and broadcasts, at the lowest price; ManyChat fits better.
Your security review asks the AI vendor for ISO 27001.
Is Chatbase a good Chatfuel alternative?
⚡
TL;DR: Yes, for a team that wants a no-code agent trained on your website and files, published to web chat, WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, email, Slack and phone. It holds SOC 2 Type II itself, hands over to its built-in helpdesk or yours, and costs $150 a month on Standard for 1,000 conversations.
Chatbase is a no-code AI agent builder. You connect your website and files, set the agent's role, and publish it to the channels you use.
The Chatbase homepage, presenting conversational AI agents for customer experience next to a demo chat window.
Its setup is short, its channel list is wide, and it costs $150 a month at this volume. Learning from past tickets and source suggestions start on the higher Pro plan, above the one priced here.
G2: Chatbase scores 4.9/5 from 33 reviews on G2. "Effortlessly develop a customized chatbot... integrating it with platforms such as WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook." Mohamed S., Marketing Manager, via G2.
Which channels does Chatbase cover?
The same agent answers on your website, WhatsApp, Messenger, Instagram and email, and Chatbase adds Slack and voice. Its homepage says: "Publish your agent across chat, WhatsApp, email, Slack, and more with a single click."
Each Meta channel needs a connected account of its own (a WhatsApp number, a Facebook page or an Instagram professional account). Its channel list stops short of TikTok, Telegram and LINE.
How easy is it to set up Chatbase?
Chatbase describes setup as connecting your sources, defining the agent's role and setting guardrails, with no code. Changes go live without a retrain: its data sources guide says "Add a source and the AI agent picks it up within seconds."
Paid plans start with a seven-day trial, and outside Chatbase you link each Meta account you publish to.
What knowledge sources can I train Chatbase on?
You can train it on PDF, Word and text files, a website crawl or sitemap, single links, text snippets, Q&A pairs and Notion pages. Standard re-reads your websites and Notion pages every week to pick up changes (and your tickets, on the plan that trains on them).
It can also learn from closed Zendesk tickets on its Pro plan, above the one priced here.
What features does Chatbase have?
Standard includes a Chatbase helpdesk, so the AI and your team can share one inbox. When the AI escalates, it can also open a ticket in Zendesk, Intercom, Freshdesk, HubSpot or Gorgias, among others, so a team with another helpdesk keeps working there.
Actions let the AI take steps such as refunds (our version is Tasks and Tools), and they come with Standard alongside voice, outbound campaigns and API access. Before it escalates on WhatsApp or Instagram, the agent asks for the customer's details in the chat itself, and Chatbase's escalation guide says those channels "always collect details conversationally."
How does Chatbase improve over time?
You can revise any answer from the chat log, and the fix becomes a Q&A source for the next customer. I like having the fix one click from the conversation that exposed the problem; we start fixes the same way, from an Inspect view that shows the source behind each answer, and a custom answer corrects it. The weekly re-sync keeps your website and Notion content current.
Source suggestions and advanced analytics start on the Pro plan. At the Standard level priced here, finding what to fix is mostly your team reading the logs.
How secure is Chatbase?
Its security page says: "Yes, Chatbase is SOC 2 Type II compliant." It is GDPR compliant, with encryption at rest and in transit. HIPAA and single sign-on are Enterprise items.
How mature is Chatbase?
Chatbase is bootstrapped, has been running for a few years (about as long as My AskAI) and says more than 10,000 businesses use it.
How much does Chatbase cost?
Standard costs $150 a month with 4,000 message credits and three members, on Chatbase's pricing page. On its default Auto model a reply uses one credit, so 1,000 two-reply conversations use 2,000 credits, inside the allowance.
When the credits run out, the agent stops answering unless you turn on auto-recharge. Premium AI models use more credits per reply, so I've priced Chatbase on Auto.
Who is using Chatbase?
Jumia's J Force scaled support to eight African markets with a Chatbase agent that answers on WhatsApp, and Chatbase reports 80% of queries resolved without a human. West Coast Batteries uses it to handle complex battery recommendations.
✅
Choose Chatbase if:
You want the quickest no-code agent trained on your website and files.
You want one agent on web chat, WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger and email.
You want the choice of its built-in helpdesk or tickets in the one you use.
You want SOC 2 Type II from the vendor itself at $150 a month.
❌
Don't choose Chatbase if:
You want the AI to learn from past tickets without moving to the Pro plan.
You can't risk the agent going quiet when the credits run out.
TL;DR: Yes, for a small team with no helpdesk that wants one inbox, with Lyro answering and learning from the chats your team solves. Tidio's inbox includes website chat, email, Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp. It's the most expensive tool here, at $729 a month for 1,000 AI conversations.
Tidio suits a small team that wants its inbox and its AI from one vendor. The inbox holds every channel together, and Lyro answers first.
The Tidio homepage, presenting AI customer service that automates support and drives sales.
For a team without a helpdesk, I think its long track record and one inbox for five channels make it a strong fit. The weak point is cost, because Lyro for 1,000 conversations adds $700 a month to the plan.
G2: Tidio scores 4.6/5 from 1,962 reviews on G2. "Lyro acts as a first line of defense for repetitive inquiries" A G2 reviewer, via G2.
Which channels does Tidio cover?
Tidio's homepage describes "Live Chat, email, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp in one shared inbox, with one customer history behind every conversation." Lyro always answers on website chat, and you can switch it on for the other four. On email, Lyro only answers the first message in a thread, and a person picks up any reply after that.
How easy is it to set up Tidio?
Tidio's quick setup guide says "In just 10 minutes, you can have a fully operational agent ready to assist your customers!" A Playground lets you ask Lyro questions and check its answers before it goes live. We run the same check as a batch test of sample questions, which also shows the source behind each answer.
There's a seven-day free trial with no card.
What knowledge sources can I train Tidio on?
Lyro learns from website pages, Q&A pairs you write, CSV or PDF imports, a Zendesk help center import, and product data from Shopify or WooCommerce. You can add up to 500 URLs in total. If your help center is in Zendesk, we connect to it directly and re-sync it every day, articles behind a login included.
Automatic weekly re-sync of your website is on the higher Plus and Premium packages only (on Starter, you re-scan pages yourself when they change). Past tickets from another helpdesk come in only with help from Tidio's team.
What features does Tidio have?
When Lyro hands over, it passes "the entire conversation on to the regular conversations inbox", so your team works in Tidio. You set different handover rules for online and offline hours, and you can send chosen visitors straight to a person by language, location or channel.
Lyro Actions let the AI do things beyond answering, and your first Action is free; our Tasks and Tools cover the same ground inside your helpdesk. Lyro answers in English and 47 other languages, and we cover 95.
How does Tidio improve over time?
When an agent closes a live chat as solved, Lyro scans it for useful knowledge and drafts a Q&A pair. Each one starts switched off, so you review it before customers see it. You can also turn questions Lyro couldn't answer into new Q&A pairs.
Email tickets aren't scanned the same way, and Lyro's analytics count a chat as resolved when the visitor left without asking for a person. Our Self-Learning drafts knowledge from the replies your agents write after a handover.
How secure is Tidio?
Tidio's homepage shows SOC 2 Type 2, GDPR and CCPA badges, and it links a Trust Center. Its privacy help article says all data is stored in the EEA, and that it follows HIPAA rules without formal compliance documentation yet. Single sign-on is on the Premium plan (above the Starter plan I've priced).
How mature is Tidio?
Tidio says it is trusted by 300,000+ businesses, and it has been building chat software for more than a decade.
How much does Tidio cost?
On Tidio's pricing page, Starter costs $29 a month with ten seats, and Lyro for 1,000 conversations costs $700 a month. The total is $29 + $700 = $729 a month, and one Lyro conversation covers every AI reply in the thread.
1,000 is the most Lyro conversations you can buy without talking to sales. Starter also includes only a small number of conversations answered by a person each month, so a team that hands over often will need a bigger plan. I've priced the AI conversations only, the same basis as every other row.
TL;DR: Yes, for the widest shared inbox on a small budget. Crisp's channels include website chat, email, the Meta channels, Telegram, LINE and SMS, and the Hugo AI agent answers first for about $126 a month at 1,000 conversations. Essentials includes ten seats. Crisp states it hasn't been through a SOC 2 audit.
Crisp is the choice for a small team that wants every channel in one inbox without a large bill. Hugo answers first, and your team picks up in the same place.
The Crisp homepage, presenting AI made to support your team and customers, above a preview of its shared inbox.
For about $126 a month, one Crisp inbox adds Telegram, LINE and SMS to the Meta channels. Hugo doesn't train on past inbox conversations, and Crisp says it hasn't been through a SOC 2 audit.
G2: Crisp scores 4.5/5 from 202 reviews on G2. "Especially the AI chatbot, which can reply to customers on its own without needing agent intervention. This helps me cut down on costs." Prahlad K., Head of Operations & Supply Chain, via G2.
Which channels does Crisp cover?
One Crisp inbox takes website chat, email, Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp, plus Telegram, X, SMS, Viber, LINE and phone. Hugo answers on any channel connected to that inbox.
WhatsApp and Instagram start on the Essentials plan, which is the one I've priced. Crisp allows one of each channel per workspace, except email.
How easy is it to set up Crisp?
Crisp offers a 14-day free trial with every feature and no card (twice the length of Tidio's). Setting up Hugo takes four steps:
Configure it.
Add training content.
Write guidance.
Test it in a Playground before you switch it on.
Hugo's replies during the trial use AI credits, so keep an eye on them while you test. Our version of that last step is internal-note mode, where the AI drafts replies on live tickets and your team reads them before any customer does.
What knowledge sources can I train Crisp on?
Hugo learns from web pages it crawls, knowledge base articles that stay in sync, uploaded files and Q&A snippets. Crisp's help center says Hugo is not trained on your past inbox conversations.
I think your team's past answers are the best training material you have, so a busy inbox loses a lot here.
What features does Crisp have?
Crisp is the inbox, so a handover stays inside Crisp. Hugo escalates when it has no answer or the customer asks for a person, and routing rules decide who picks it up. Round-robin assignment, the workflow builder and analytics start on Essentials.
Hugo is included on every paid plan.
How does Crisp improve over time?
Hugo's analytics show conversation funnels, the escalation rate and topic volume, and you can review escalated chats. Fixing a gap is a manual job: you turn a repeated question into a snippet or an article.
That puts more of the work on your team than Tidio or our Self-Learning, which draft new answers from your agents' replies.
How secure is Crisp?
Crisp's SOC 2 help article says: "Please note that Crisp hasn't been over any SOC2 audit but we wish to show we are fully compliant with these specific needs." Its help center says it is committed to aligning with ISO 27001.
Its security practices page describes EU hosting, TLS everywhere and encrypted backups. Every plan includes a data processing agreement and two-factor login.
How mature is Crisp?
Crisp has been running for about a decade, is bootstrapped and says it is trusted by 10,000 companies.
How much does Crisp cost?
On Crisp's pricing page, Essentials costs $95 a month per workspace, with ten seats and $25 of AI credits, which Crisp says covers around 450 Hugo conversations. I've priced the other 550 of your 1,000 conversations at the rate those included credits work out to, so the month comes to $95 + about $31 = about $126.
Hugo bills once per conversation, however many messages it sends. By default, its billing article says, "once included Hugo credits are consumed, Hugo stops answering automatically and incoming conversations are escalated to human operators until credits become available again." Turn pay-as-you-go on if you want Hugo answering all month.
Who is using Crisp?
Decathlon and Emma (the mattress company) both appear on Crisp's testimonials page. Crisp says Hugo resolves about 40% of Emma's conversations on its own.
✅
Choose Crisp if:
You're a small team that wants every channel, including Telegram and LINE, in one inbox with AI.
You want ten seats on one workspace price.
You want EU hosting.
You want to try everything for 14 days with no card.
❌
Don't choose Crisp if:
Your security review asks for a SOC 2 report or ISO 27001 certificate.
You want the AI to learn from your team's past conversations.
You can't have the AI stop answering when the credits run out, and don't want pay-as-you-go on.
TL;DR: Yes, for a team whose questions arrive mostly as Instagram DMs. At $64 a month for 1,000 contacts with three people answering, it's the cheapest tool here. It automates Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, TikTok, Telegram and other channels much as Chatfuel does and holds ISO 27001, ISO 42001 and SOC 2 Type II, but its question-answering AI is an Instagram-only beta.
ManyChat is the most direct comparison for Chatfuel. Both automate DMs and comments on Meta's apps, and both hand chats to a person in their own inbox.
The ManyChat homepage, presenting social messaging automation across Instagram, WhatsApp, TikTok and Messenger.
It has the lowest bill here, a long list of security certificates and more than a decade on Meta's apps. For support questions, the AI trains on text and single public pages only, and your team improves it mostly by hand.
Which channels does ManyChat cover?
ManyChat's pricing page says "It works across Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, TikTok, Telegram, Email, and SMS." The Pro plan connects any three of those, and your team answers in the Inbox, which covers channels such as Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, Telegram and SMS.
Its help article says the AI that answers questions, AI Replies, "is currently available only for the Instagram channel". On the other channels the AI works as a step inside a flow someone builds (so a person on your team writes the flow first). ManyChat's pages show no website chat widget, and its team has said in its community forum that it won't build a replacement for the Facebook chat plugin right now.
How easy is it to set up ManyChat?
Flows and AI need no code. You switch on AI Replies, add a link or some text, choose whether the AI can assign a chat to a person, and test it in a Playground before going live.
For WhatsApp, ManyChat says Meta's business verification isn't needed for conversations the customer starts.
What knowledge sources can I train ManyChat on?
The AI Knowledge article says: "At the moment, the Knowledge Base supports two types of content: text and public links." It also scans one page at a time, so a whole website means adding each page.
File upload is listed as coming soon, and links to social posts or Google Docs can't be scanned. That's the shortest source list in this set, and for support questions I think it's the weakest part of ManyChat's case.
What features does ManyChat have?
AI Replies can hand a conversation to a real person in ManyChat's Inbox. Anyone answering needs an Inbox seat, and Pro includes two. Rules run first: when a DM or comment arrives, ManyChat checks whether another automation can handle it before the AI replies.
Shared team assignments start on the Business plan, which I haven't priced, and AI Replies is still in beta.
How does ManyChat improve over time?
When the AI meets a question none of your knowledge entries covers, the Playground suggests adding it. Knowledge changes apply from the next new conversation, and an Overview tab shows AI performance.
Beyond those suggestions, improvement is mostly your team adding content by hand.
How secure is ManyChat?
Its security page says "Manychat is SOC 2 Type II compliant." It also holds ISO 27001 and ISO 42001, is listed on the CSA STAR registry, and meets PCI DSS SAQ A for card payments. "Manychat stores all production data in AWS data centers in Frankfurt, EU." It also restricts its AI providers from training on your conversations (we make the same promise for your data).
How mature is ManyChat?
ManyChat has been running for more than a decade, serves 1M+ creators and holds Meta Business Partner and TikTok Marketing Partner badges.
How much does ManyChat cost?
Pro costs $39 a month billed monthly and covers 2,500 active contacts, where a person who messages many times in a month counts once. It includes the AI and two Inbox seats (on the current plans, the AI isn't a separate add-on). Its Pro plan article prices an extra Inbox seat at $25, so three people answering comes to $39 + $25 = $64 a month.
WhatsApp message fees come out of a separate ManyChat wallet. There's a 14-day free trial of Pro.
Who is using ManyChat?
ManyChat's stories are about sales and audience growth, and its homepage and pricing page feature creators such as Natasha Willis and @theresa.notes.
✅
Choose ManyChat if:
Most of your questions arrive as Instagram DMs and comments.
You want the lowest monthly bill in this list.
Your security review wants ISO 27001 and ISO 42001.
You also run marketing flows on TikTok or Telegram.
❌
Don't choose ManyChat if:
You need AI answering on WhatsApp or Messenger without building flows.
You need a website chat widget.
You want the AI trained on files, a whole website or past conversations.
Is Botpress a good Chatfuel alternative?
⚡
TL;DR: Yes, if you have developer time. Botpress lists Telegram, LINE, Slack and Teams next to the Meta channels, takes actions such as refunds and hands chats to Botpress Desk, its helpdesk for your team. Its trust center lists SOC 2 Type II and HIPAA. It costs $709 a month on Plus for 1,000 conversations.
Botpress gives you more control than anything else in this list. That control comes through builder tools, and in my view it suits a support team with developer time to spend.
The Botpress homepage, presenting an AI-native customer support platform, with a customer asking for a refund in a chat demo.
Which channels does Botpress cover?
Botpress lists channel connections for WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, Telegram, LINE, Slack, Microsoft Teams and Gmail, alongside its web chat. Plus includes WhatsApp and web chat, and voice is on Enterprise only.
WhatsApp needs a Facebook business page and a WhatsApp business account first (the same Meta paperwork Chatfuel asks for). Its WhatsApp guide says "After setup is complete, your business will undergo a verification process by Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp."
How easy is it to set up Botpress?
Botpress sells a visual agent builder, Botpress Studio, and a developer kit for custom logic. Reviewers describe a steep learning curve for non-technical users, and one builder described the studio this way:
"there seem to be too much going on in the interface that makes it hard to be productive." - source
For a support lead, that means changing a simple answer may need someone who knows the builder. The free plan needs no card (and includes 25 conversations), so you can judge it yourself.
What knowledge sources can I train Botpress on?
You can add your website's address and let Botpress discover the other pages, plus specific pages, documents, tables, web search results and rich text. You can schedule website re-crawls, daily for example.
Past support conversations aren't among the source types its docs list.
What features does Botpress have?
The agent can take actions such as refunds, account updates and order corrections, and run multi-step workflows. Our Tasks and Tools do the same for refunds, cancellations and order changes, written in plain language inside your helpdesk. For new workspaces, the human handoff guide says "Human Handoff has moved to Botpress Desk, our new AI helpdesk for modern support teams." The Hub also lists handoff connections into HubSpot.
Routing, role permissions and team analytics are on the Team plan, above the Plus plan priced here.
How does Botpress improve over time?
Botpress's homepage says of Botpress Desk: "One resolution becomes permanent knowledge. Every future similar ticket is handled automatically." Its docs describe the scheduled re-crawl that keeps website sources current.
I'd test that learning claim on the free plan before relying on it.
How secure is Botpress?
The Botpress trust center lists a SOC 2 Type II report, HIPAA, GDPR, CCPA and DORA, plus a penetration test summary. Its homepage adds that KPMG ran the penetration test.
How mature is Botpress?
Botpress says 750k AI agents have been built on it and points to 10 years of AI infrastructure. It raised a Series B, and its customer stories range from hotel assistants to logistics support.
How much does Botpress cost?
On Botpress's pricing page, the Plus plan comes to $709 a month billed monthly at 1,000 conversations, with three seats and some AI usage included. Any exchange with at least two messages from the customer counts as a conversation, whether the AI or a person answers (a one-message exchange doesn't count).
When you reach 95% of your allowance, Botpress adds a pack of 100 conversations automatically, and you can't switch that off. AI usage above the included amount is topped up the same way (in $10 grants, sold at cost).
Who is using Botpress?
hostifAI, a Botpress partner that builds virtual butlers for hotels, reports that 75% of its conversations end without a transfer to a human. Super Dispatch tripled AI resolution to 66% with Botpress.
✅
Choose Botpress if:
You need Telegram, LINE, Slack or Teams alongside the Meta channels.
You want the AI to take actions such as refunds and account changes on Telegram, LINE or Slack.
Your security review asks for SOC 2 Type II and HIPAA.
You have developer time to build and change the agent.
❌
Don't choose Botpress if:
Your support team needs to edit answers without help.
You want a hard cap on the bill when volume spikes.
You need more than three seats on the Plus plan.
Is Wati a good Chatfuel alternative?
⚡
TL;DR: Yes, when WhatsApp is your main channel. Wati's team inbox also takes Instagram, Messenger, TikTok and website chat. Its AI agent, Astra, is a separate product trained on your files and past WhatsApp chats. Wati and Astra together cost $248 a month at 1,000 conversations.
Wati started as a WhatsApp team inbox and is still built around it. If most of your customers write in on WhatsApp, it gives your team a proper shared inbox for them, with an AI agent in front.
The Wati homepage, presenting an AI-powered customer engagement platform, above suggested questions for its Ask Wati assistant.
The WhatsApp inbox is the reason to pick it. The AI agent is a second product on a second bill, and Wati's SOC 2 report is Type 1.
G2: Wati scores 4.6/5 from 513 reviews on G2. "Now, all replies are handled by WATI instead of our team having to manage them manually like before, and no lead follow-up gets missed." Shivam P., Sales Development Representative, via G2.
Which channels does Wati cover?
Wati's inbox takes WhatsApp (text and calls), Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, website chat, SMS and RCS. Seeing WhatsApp and Instagram in one team inbox needs the Pro or Business plan.
Astra answers natively on WhatsApp and web chat, with a separate agent for each. It reaches Instagram and Messenger through a step in a chatbot flow. Email isn't among the channels Wati's pages list.
How easy is it to set up Wati?
Onboarding includes Meta's business verification and registering your WhatsApp number, the same Meta step Chatfuel needs. You need admin access to Meta Business Manager, and your old WhatsApp chat history doesn't come across.
Connecting Astra to WhatsApp then needs Wati Pro or Business (which is why I've priced Pro). Astra writes test cases for itself as soon as you create an agent. One Wati user compared the setup with connecting to Meta directly:
"Setup is pretty straightforward compared to raw Meta API." - source
What knowledge sources can I train Wati on?
Astra learns from website links (with an option to crawl subpages), PDF, Word, text and Markdown files, and Q&A pairs. Its connection guide says "You can sync up to 60 days of historical Wati conversations to improve the agent's understanding of customer interactions."
When your content changes, you retrain the agent yourself.
What features does Wati have?
Wati's assignment guide says that once a chat is assigned, "Astra stops responding, and the selected assignee takes over the conversation." Pro adds teams, auto routing and operator reports; round-robin routing is on Business. Your team also gets an AI Co-pilot of its own (500 free credits a month on Pro).
How does Wati improve over time?
Astra's dashboard shows the resolution rate, handle time and drop-off, split by text and voice. Wati's help center lists a report on top question categories and unanswered questions as still in development.
How secure is Wati?
The Wati trust center lists SOC 2, ISO 27001, ISO 27701, GDPR, UK GDPR and CPRA, and states that customer data is never used for training. Its SOC 2 report is Type 1, which checks controls at a single point in time (a Type II report covers months of operation). Wati and Astra can both run on an EU instance.
How mature is Wati?
Wati says it serves 16,000+ customers and is one of the official WhatsApp Business Solution Providers authorized by Meta. It has been around for less time than ManyChat, Tidio and Crisp, and for longer than we have.
How much does Wati cost?
Wati Pro costs $149 a month billed monthly with five users, on Wati's pricing page, and Astra is priced separately. Astra Pro costs $99 a month with 5,000 credits, and each text reply uses one credit, so 2,000 replies fit easily.
That's $149 + $99 = $248 a month, before Meta's message fees. Wati offers a seven-day free trial, and Astra Pro has a 14-day trial.
Who is using Wati?
Zostel (a travel brand) says its average first response time on WhatsApp fell by 40% with structured routing and automated workflows. Resolvvi, a Brazilian consumer lawtech company, uses an AI agent that pulls live case data and answers inside WhatsApp.
✅
Choose Wati if:
WhatsApp is your main channel and you want a proper team inbox for it.
You want Instagram, Messenger, TikTok and website chat in the same inbox.
You want the AI to learn from your past WhatsApp chats.
You want five users on the plan price.
❌
Don't choose Wati if:
You want the AI agent on the same bill as the inbox.
You answer customers by email.
Your security review asks for a SOC 2 Type II report.
What do these Chatfuel alternatives actually cost at 1,000 conversations a month?
⚡
TL;DR: At 1,000 conversations a month, ManyChat is cheapest at $64, then Chatfuel's $69 list price before AI top-ups, Crisp at about $126, Chatbase at $150, My AskAI at $199, Wati at $248, Botpress at $709 and Tidio at $729. Credit and pack-based bills rise with usage, and Crisp and Chatbase pause the AI at a zero balance unless top-ups are switched on.
I've put every row on the same basis: 1,000 conversations a month, three teammates, two AI replies per conversation for tools priced by reply or credit, and one contact per conversation for tools priced by contact. Each tool is on its cheapest monthly plan that covers the volume and whatever its scores rely on, and Meta's WhatsApp fees are left out.
Chatfuel's pricing page shows no per-reply AI price, so its row can't be priced past the included credits. Once they're used, its docs say AI replies and Meta's message charges draw from the same wallet you top up (so a busy month of WhatsApp messages also eats into your AI budget).
Among the tools with an inbox built in, ManyChat and Crisp keep the bill low, while Tidio and Botpress cost more than ten times as much as ManyChat, with their AI sold in blocks of conversations. Our row assumes a helpdesk your team already pays for, while Chatbase, Crisp, Tidio, Wati, ManyChat and Botpress include an inbox, so add your helpdesk bill to ours before you compare totals.
Credits, pay-as-you-go and automatic packs move with how chatty your customers are, and Crisp's Hugo and Chatbase stop answering at zero unless you switch on top-ups. You can check our number against your tickets during the 30-day free trial.
The seven tools grouped by what their bill is priced on: My AskAI per ticket; Crisp, Botpress and Tidio per conversation; Chatbase and Wati on credits; ManyChat per active contact.
Which Chatfuel alternative is best?
⚡
TL;DR: Pick My AskAI (63/80) if your team answers in a helpdesk and wants the AI there, or Chatbase (62/80) for the quickest no-code agent on your website and files. ManyChat costs least and is the nearest match to Chatfuel for Instagram DMs, and Tidio or Crisp suit a team with no helpdesk that wants chat and AI together.
My pick for each kind of support team:
My AskAI - your team answers in Zendesk, Intercom, Freshdesk, Freshchat, Gorgias or HubSpot, and you want the AI inside it, trained on your help center and historic tickets, on a per-ticket bill. Start with the 30-day free trial on the helpdesk you already use.
Chatbase - you want the quickest no-code agent trained on your website and files, answering on web chat and the Meta channels from $150 a month.
Tidio - you're a small team with no helpdesk yet and want one inbox for chat, email and social messages with AI on top, and the budget allows $729 a month at this volume.
Crisp - you want the same inbox-plus-AI setup with Telegram and LINE, for about $126 a month, and your security review doesn't need a SOC 2 report.
ManyChat - most of your questions come in as Instagram DMs and comments, and you want the lowest bill at $64 a month.
Botpress - you need many channels, including Telegram and LINE, and have developer help to build and change the agent.
Wati - WhatsApp is your main channel and your team wants a proper shared inbox for it, with an AI agent added on.
Quadrant chart placing the seven alternatives by Overall score and monthly cost: My AskAI and Chatbase sit highest, Botpress and Tidio sit furthest to the right, and ManyChat sits furthest left.
FAQs
Chatfuel vs ManyChat for customer service: which is better?
Both automate DMs on Meta's apps and hand chats to a person in their own inbox. ManyChat bills per active contact, $64 a month at our volume with three people answering, and its question-answering AI works on Instagram only, in beta. Chatfuel lists at $69 a month with $20 of AI credits, and its AI agent answers across WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, TikTok and a website widget.
What's the best AI agent for WhatsApp and Instagram customer support?
It depends where your team replies. If WhatsApp and Instagram already come into your helpdesk, we answer them inside it with My AskAI. With no helpdesk, Tidio and Crisp give you one inbox with AI on top, Wati is built around WhatsApp, and ManyChat is the cheapest for Instagram DMs. WhatsApp on Wati and Botpress starts with Meta's business verification, as it does on Chatfuel.
What's the difference between AI chatbots and AI agents for customer support?
A chatbot usually follows flows someone has drawn, with buttons and fixed replies at each step. An AI agent reads your knowledge, answers in its own words, takes actions such as refunds and hands over to a person when it should. Chatfuel and ManyChat mix the two, adding AI steps to flows. Our AI agent takes actions through Tasks written in plain language.
Can I set up AI customer support without any coding?
Yes. My AskAI, Chatbase, Tidio, Crisp, ManyChat and Wati all set up without code, most within an hour if you use AI to draft your instructions. Ours installs as a marketplace app and lets you check its replies as internal notes first. Botpress is the one tool here that suits a team with developer help.
Which free trial AI customer support tools can I test before committing?
You can test every tool here before you pay.

Is there a free Chatfuel alternative?
Chatfuel's docs say its free plan covers comment replies on Instagram, Facebook and TikTok, and that its paid plans start with a seven-day trial that needs a card. Among the alternatives, Botpress has a free plan with 25 conversations, and Tidio moves you to its free plan after the trial. For a full test at real volume, My AskAI's 30-day trial with no card is the longest here.
