What is Zendesk’s Automated Resolution (outcome-based) pricing model?
Zendesk uses an outcome-based pricing model called Automated Resolution pricing, where Zendesk decides whether a ticket counts as resolved and therefore billable. Costs depend on the AI’s internal evaluation of whether the conversation was “satisfactorily resolved,” which can lead to unpredictable monthly bills.
When does Zendesk count an Automated Resolution?
Zendesk counts a resolution when the AI determines the issue was handled without human intervention. On Essentials plans, this can include positive feedback, completing an answer flow, or simply sharing a help-center article. On Advanced plans, Zendesk charges whenever its AI believes the user’s request was resolved, even if the user didn’t explicitly confirm it.
Why do some businesses get charged even when Zendesk AI gives an unhelpful response?
Because Zendesk bases billing on its own AI evaluation, not the user’s actual satisfaction. If a user gets an irrelevant or incomplete answer, leaves the conversation, and Zendesk still marks it as “resolved,” you are charged regardless of whether the customer was satisfied.
