This phrase has really stuck with me since I first heard it. "Unbundling the employee".

When we think about how AI can help our business (or start a new company), a great mental model for this is unbundling an employee. What does this mean?
 
Take a customer support agent. Think about the various jobs that this role is responsible for:
 
  • Replying to customers
  • Maintaining the help docs
  • Sharing feedback with product/tech
  • Offer proactive help
 
Each of these jobs can be broken down into tasks with inputs and outputs, but ultimately it has an outcome a business wants. We can then think about how we can use AI to complete these jobs and deliver these outcomes, end to end.
 
We're used to dealing with SaaS products. We provide an input and it gives us an output. It's one of many tools an employee may need to complete a job and deliver the outcome. AI is now different in that it can deliver the entire outcome. Like a micro-employee on auto-pilot.
 
So if you're thinking about how you can leverage AI as a company, consider breaking down the jobs of your employees and ranking by simplicity and time spent. A lot of the time, the simplest jobs can be the most time-consuming.
